Here's a scenario: You started working as a Safety Professional for a company that talks often and loudly about its great safety culture. Besides that you have discovered a lot of things that are not going so well and are not so hot, within 4 months three employees tell you that they did not really want to report a case because a) two employees thought it was a recordable incident and did not want to be responsible for a higher EMR rate, and b) a person in the leadership team/management does not report the incident for a whole week and then says that he/she thinks it would look really bad if he/she in his/her position would have a recordable incident.
Suppose you discuss this with someone else in the leadership team/management, don't mention any names, just state the fact that you believe that there is a serious issue with the highly praised safety culture within that company. How would you react if the person you are talking to in management tells you that there is nothing wrong with the safety culture and that these three opinions are only gut feelings of those employees?
